Choosing a Contractor
Do I work with your contractor?
YES -- ABSOLUTELY
  • Contractors are an important part of the process.
  • The contractor can provide supporting information for the type and cost of repairs needed.
  • It is important that the contractor is in agreement with the solution so you may be properly restored within the terms of your policy.
  • You should use a contractor with experience in your required repair needs.
  • If you are working with a public adjuster, it is less important what experience they have with insurers.  The public adjuster can help inform and guide them in regard to the insurance.
  • If you don't have a contractor, the public adjuster may help you secure an appropriate contractor.
BE CAUTIOUS OF OVER AMBITIOUS CONTRACTORS
There are many bad actors out there...don't be taken or get in trouble with the law.

There are ways a contractor can be of benefit to you.  Sliding into the role of a Public Insurance Adjuster or even that of a Lawyer are not part of the program.

Facts are facts.  So I am not going to give a big discertation here about the wrongful acts of contractors.  But I am giving broad caution.

To that end, here is a link.  This link is Texas specific.    Check your own state as it may be the same or closely similar.  Just take the information directly from TDI (Texas Department of Insurance).  Follow the other links within that page.  If you talk with 3 contractors, you will likely hear 3 different positions.  Get the facts.
